Is Alfa Romeo working on a midsize EV crossover for North America?
The entire automotive industry is turning more and more towards electrification as the future of vehicles. Each year, brand new EVs are released or old nameplates are transitioned into new powertrains, and we’re honestly pretty excited about it! For example, Alfa Romeo has already unveiled its first-ever hybrid in the upcoming Tonale. But we suspect this is just the beginning for our favorite brand. In fact, Jean-Philippe Imparato, the CEO of Alfa Romeo, recently confirmed to Automotive News Europe that the company was working on bringing an all-electric, midsize crossover to the North American market, and we couldn’t be more excited!

What do we know so far?
Admittedly, this isn’t a lot to go on. Plus, it’s just a quote given to the automotive press, it’s not binding by any means. But we certainly believe the CEO and cannot wait for more information to become available. Until then, though, we’ve got to work with what we do know. Imparato went on to explain that this E-segment vehicle – which is the European equivalent to our midsize crossover segment – might not look like a traditional crossover, citing the importance of aerodynamics in electric vehicles. This certainly enables engineers to get more creative with their design, so we can probably expect a unique exterior and architecture.
We also know that Alfa Romeo is focusing on performance in its electric vehicles. Imparato himself stated that the brand’s EVs will offer powertrains capable of generating 350 to 800 horsepower, perhaps even pushing past this in Quadrifoglio variants. It is believed that the company will be completing the design of the vehicle sometime this year and that we can expect the vehicle to actually enter production and hit the market around the 2027 calendar year.
We cannot wait for more information on this and other BEVs to become available. The automaker will be releasing its first BEV in 2025, so we expect more information to start trickling in any time now.
